The Experiences of Nurses of Uncivil Behaviors in Intensive Care Unit

Abstract

Introduction: Incivility behavior and violence are complex problems in nursing profession. The reality today is that if people feel they work better, be more successful in their work. The purpose of this study was to explain the incivility behavior experiences in the intensive care unit nurse
Method and Material: This qualitative study based on sampling was conducted in center of Golestan University of Medical Sciences (1390). Data collectection was done with individual semi-structured interviews to achieve data saturation. The collaborative focused observations and notes were used for data collection. The interviews line by line was transcribed and analyzed using "content analysis". Verbal consent was obtained for participation in the study and voice recording.
Results: The main theme was "stress of disrespect". Incivility behavior was in a wide range of collegeu and head nurse to the physician and patient. Coping behaviors of nurses against violence was "work indifference," "fear" and "anger and the aggression". Being a novice, lack of the domain of professional duties, and command profession and the subordination and lack of support, were reasons for abusive behavior.

Conclusion: Incivility behavior in the workplace can be stressful. The occurrence of such behavior has a profound impact on their satisfaction and performance. More extensive studies and ways to fix it seem necessary.
