Barriers to apply the principles of professional ethics in the practice from Viewpoints of Nurses and Nursing Instructors of Medical Sciences at Kermanshah University (2015)

Abstract

Introduction: Many nurses are facing with problem in implementing their ethical knowledge and they cannot demonstrate a professional ethics in practice.
Methods: This study aimed to determine the barriers to performance of professional ethics in clinical care. This study is a analytical-descriptive study that was conducted on 217 nurses and 18 nursing professors in 2015. Sampling method in nursing was simple random and among professors was census method. Data collection tool was a Researcher-Made questionnaire included 33 questions, which measure barriers to professional ethics. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 22 and independent t-test.
Results: The most important management barriers from the view of nurses was lackshortage of  nursing personnel (4/12±0/92) and from the view of nursing professors was lack of the necessary training in the field of ethical issues in nursing school (3/72±0/89). : The most important environmental barriers from the view of nurses was overcrowding of the wards(3/66±0/88) and from the view of nursing professors was biological and physical   changes during night shifts (3/72±0/82). Shortage of time was the most important individual care-giving barrier from the view of nurses (4/44±0/62) and from the perspective of nursing professors (4/28±0/66).
Conclusion: According to findings of present study, it is recommended to utilize more nursing  workers and also be included principles of the time management in nursing education program.
